Bustiers, Corset, Waist Trainers and Everything in Between

Hey Dolls,

Body shaping is back in a big way and with its popularity comes so new many options. There's teas, shakes, CoolSculpting (cold), SculpSure (heat), UltraShape (ultrasound), and truSculpt (radio frequency). The list goes on and on, but today we are going to talk about the classics: bustiers, corsets and waist trainers.

BUSTIERS

First up, bustiers. These do not contour or cinch your waist. They enhance your breasts. They're designed specifically to create cleavage and a fuller bust area. Your waist can appear smaller or more contoured because your breasts are higher and rounder. Bustiers have the least affect on the waist and are not used for waist training.

CORSETS

Corsets are constructed from a strong, yet flexible fabric. They are reinforced with steel boning to cinch your waist and accentuate the curves of your hips and bustline. Typically corsets are tightened by fastening the front busk (a piece of corset hardware consisting of two steel stays, one with metal loops) and then lacing up the back. Corsets are made to fit around your midsection and can be either an “overbust” or an “underbust,” and depending on your style, can be worn over your clothes or under your clothes. Corsets can have small or extreme curves. Corsets are designed to target one area: the waist. Waist training with a corset is training the waist to become able to fit into smaller and curvier corsets progressively. Over time your waist will return to its original size after every waist train.

WAIST TRAINERS

Unlike corsets, waist trainers target the entire torso. Waist trainers are designed for compressing, not cinching. Due to its less restrictive design (no steel boning) it can be more comfortable, which makes waist trainers a more transitional option. This feature makes them easy to wear while working out or completing daily tasks. Waist training in a waist trainer is designed to shrink the waist through compression and targeted heating for sweat production. This is the most effective of the three options if you're interested shrinking your waist more permanently.

The jury is still out on the effectiveness of waist training and shaping. What do you Dolls think? Is waist training a thing? Do you waist train? Which methods do you use? Let me know below or on Instagram @porscheporshia.
