Sex Positive is the New Black

Hey Dolls,

There's a new term buzzing about and it's shifting the industry and the way we all style ourselves. The term Sex Positive seems to be the focal point of mainstream media and many movements. Giving the term, sex sells, a whole new meaning and we are HERE FOR IT! This has opened the doors for more creativity and fun in the fashion industry. Gone are the days of "slut shaming", "promiscuous girls" or "prudes". Sex positivity has changed the landscape of the fashion world and I don't believe we will be going back. Let's discuss some trends that resulted from sex positivity.

Let's Take a SLUT WALK!

Amber Rose is very popular for her "SlutWalk," which focuses calling for an end to rape culture, including victim blaming and slut shaming of sexual assault victims. The popularity of this movement did not only effect justice for victims, it freed us of worrying that our wardrobe choices could warrant unwanted negative attention. SlutWalk attendees rocked all the "racy" stuff such as pasties, sheer, mesh, leather and latex. This bled into fashion design, leading designers to embrace the risque and normalize wearing items -- normally reserved for the bedroom -- in other places.

Because Hoe is Life

Who would have ever thought that women would be stating "hoe is life"? We can honestly say it never crossed our minds. The words hoe, whore, slut, thot and skank used to bear a very negative connotation, but pop culturists and artists have stripped these terms of their malice. Now these terms are used in a way to empower women to embrace their sexuality in whatever ways they feel are safe and they deem fit. This also is reflected in fashion and beauty. This has shifted our clothing and make-up choices. We are wearing higher heels, shorter shorts and tinier bikinis.

Sex positivity is not an attempt to condone reckless sexual behavior, but a way to strip the shame, embarrassment and taboo away from sex and sexuality. Sex positivity in fashion is about doing as much or as little as you'd like. "Free the nip" or dress in lace from head to toe. It's all about embracing yourself to the fullest without concern for outside influence. We don't know why this hasn't been a thing! What do you Dolls think, is sex positivity a good thing? Should we be cautious? Join the conversation below or on Instagram @porscheporshia.
